President Trump’s unhappiness with the United Nations is nothing new and can be traced back to his first Presidential term. However, this latest rift and escalation between President Trump and the United Nations is very different and highly significantly.
In his second term. President Trump had anchored his vision and his administration’s strategic plans on leveraging American AI breakthrough developments to help “Make America Great Again”.
President Trump has always believed that to achieve this, American AI companies must not be shackled down by regulation that can stifle their progress to innovate. For him, letting American AI companies push forward unrestricted by regulation is key to advancing his own legacy as the President who took America to new heights, and the man who led the USA to beat China, and the rest of the world’s competitors, to win now, and the 21st century, out right.

Trump Blindedsided from Within
It appears that President Trump vision and strategic plans seemed to have been blindsided and compromised from within his inner circle, specifically from the office of a senior member of his inner cabinet team Survivability News investigative team have learnt from its sources.
In 2025, the Trump administration fiercely opposed UN efforts to create any global AI governance advocating for national sovereignty and technological autonomy instead.The Trump administration opposed centralized international control or governance of AI through the United Nations or its UN family members. At the UN, Trump’s officials argued that AI governance should preserve national sovereignty and technological independence, rather than place AI under centralized international control.
Recently, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres announced the High-Level Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence. Its mandate was to examine AI risks, opportunities, and possible international governance mechanisms. Guterres specifically warned that malicious AI could undermine institutions, social cohesion, and democracy.
However, in February 2026, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres announced a new 40-member Independent International Scientific Panel on AI, established pursuant to the UN’s Pact for the Future. Guterres described it as the first fully independent global scientific body dedicated to assessing AI’s impacts, risks and opportunities.
Then in early August 2026, the United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres announced the work of the Independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence, a newly established global body of 40 leading scientists and experts from every region.
The US Trump administration subsequently opposed the UN panel, with the objections focused on concerns about UN mission creep, overreach, and the role of authoritarian states, and identified the selection process itself as a concern. The General Assembly nevertheless approved it 117–2, with two abstentions.
Through its confidential sources, Survivability News special investigators have been able to ascertain that the new UN AI direction and the formation of its UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres 40-member team which blindsided President Trump was directly assisted and enabled by either an advisor / staffer in the office of a senior Trump cabinet member, or the senior cabinet member themselves.
